Piazza Tricolore - 95126 Catania

Stroll along the seafront of Catania and stop to watch the Monumento ai Caduti, a symbol of the city's rebirth.

A place overlooking the sea and one of the many symbols of Catania that aims at urban regeneration: Monumenti dei Caduti of Catania is a stone’s throw from the village of San Giovanni Li Cuti and is a tangible sign of rebirth from degradation thanks to project and the work of the architect Renato Basile (former author of various redevelopment projects including the “Museo Reba” in San Berillo and author of redevelopment projects in Ortigia and Ragusa) and the Municipality of Catania.

The monument has been cleaned up and the inscriptions have been eliminated and the interior rooms, unused until today, have been enhanced. Originally the museum was designed by the late architect Giuseppe Marino and the work was later completed by his wife, the architect Giuseppin Santagati.

Ideally, today at the entrance of the monument a small sitting room has been placed, to symbolize an “ideal lounge” of Catania and inside there are numerous paintings and installations that will make the place vibrant with new life. Today the premises are and will be usable by the community for exhibitions, concerts, exhibitions, courses and, outside, there are also many children who join or do break dance and parkour.
