Via Roma, 33 - 96100 Siracusa

The Church of St. Maria of the Immaculate Conception was built at the end of 1300. Over the subsequent centuries it underwent several renovations and additions of architectural elements. Also known as St. Maria of the Nuns, as annexed to the monastery, the two buildings represented the biggest, richest and most important convent buildings of Siracusa.

The church consists of a nave flanked by several chapels; at the center of ceiling with a barrel vault you can admire the frescoes depicting St. Maria and the angels by the master Sebastiano Monaco (1786).

Besides the frescoes, the church houses numerous works of art such as the furniture and the floor in Caltagirone ceramics.
