The Gallery of Palazzo Bellomo, museum of medieval and modern art, is located next to the church of St Benedict in the historic center of Ortigia, near the fountain Arethusa.

It was inaugurated in 1948 with a first museological arrangement, but only in the seventies it came to the completion of the construction. Among the collections stored in the museum it is worth recalling the two sarcophagi of Governors of the Reginale Chamber, John Çabastida and John Cardenas.

In the first, whereas the upper face of the tombstone depicts the gentleman lying and wearing armor, the lower one has been reused in the sixteenth century as the altar frontal and depicts the Deposition between St. Lucia and John the Baptist. The second is the work of Antonello Gagini, son of Domenico (1506).

Upstairs, in the rich art gallery, showing the Annunciation by Antonello da Messina in 1474. Notable collections of sacred silver.
