    The Porto Piccolo or Porto Marmoreo is located to the east of the island of Ortigia, which includes the inner part of the Arsenal (Lakkios), site of the reclaimed Syrako lagoon.

    The port was separated in the 6th century B.C. from the southern Porto Grande with an artificial isthmus, to connect the island of Ortigia with the opposite promontory of the internal district of Acradina.

    The small port was then partially described and celebrated by the historians for the new arsenal desired by Dionysius near the Acropolis, the fortress with the palace of the tyrant we identified on the current isthmus. The Lakkios then had two strategic exits: the old one from which the ships normally left passing, over a long and deep underwater channel, first in the small port and then directly on the open sea; the new one through the isthmus through a narrow channel towards the large port.

    Porto Piccolo has several landings:

    • Santa Lucia quay free berth, 30 berths (small tonnage);
    • Landing point S. Lucia floating piers for pleasure, 130 berths various services;
    • Italian Navy League wooden piers for pleasure craft, 300 berths for various services;
    • Circolo Velico Sailing Club wooden jetties for pleasure craft, 150 berths for various services;
    • Aretusa Sailing Club floating pontoons for sailing boats, 30 small tonnage berths (seasonal);
    • Yacht Club Lakkios can accommodate boats up to 16 meters in length and a draft of 3 meters with services on 80 meters perimeter of a quay and a floating pier of 50 meters.
