Città della Scienza

Città della Scienza is an incubator of ideas and opportunities: you can participate to conferences, seminars and debates, visit exhibitions dedicated to scientific and technological issues of particular relevance or monographic subjects of social interest, watching shows, theater performances, film screenings, concerts, or just have a coffee or buy a good book.

No more static, conservative and exhibition dimension of a traditional museum, but its evolution: video and graphics, multimedia, 3D animations, simulations and virtual reality and all the innovative communication tools created by the contribution of new information technologies. Alongside the exploration of the basic principles of the various scientific disciplines – the universal language of mathematics physical interpretation of natural phenomena, from the achievements of chemistry to biological evolution, one joins in the fascinating world of computing and robotics – are told the lives of scholars and researchers by placing ideas in a historical dimension, discussing literature and science, exposing the complex web of connections between different fields of knowledge that characterizes every cultural fabric.

Città della Scienza is born inside a late nineteenth century sulfur refinery no longer in business, the University of Catania bought in 2005 to direct it to the site of a new generation science museum. In this space, the visitor is the protagonist and moves in place of entertainment with games and experiments that ignite curiosity about nature and technology, under the banner of “forbidden not to touch.”
