Warhol è Noto

The former Convitto Ragusa in Noto hosts the exhibition “Warhol è Noto”, edited by Giuseppe Stagnitta and built by Fenice Company Ideas and Associazione Culturale Studio Soligo in collaboration with the Municipality of Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On display there are about 120 works, from-Rosini Gutman Collection, which tell and will make the public known the powerful communicative force of Andy Warhol, the most eclectic and important personalities of the art of the the 20th century.

The exhibition opens with 20 drawings made in the Fifties that describe the beginning of his career to move to the Campbell’s Soup and Brillo, from Marilyn Monroe to Ingrid Bergman, from Man Ray to John Gotti and Liz Taylor, arriving at the famous single piece representing Mao. They are also exhibited the rare work on canvas of Liza Minnelli and Murder in Dallas and the representative works of almost all its production, like Flowers, Cow and Fish. 

On show also the screening of a rare interview conducted by the journalist Vanni Ronsisvalle in Rome in 1977, in which the artist is taken up in his wanderings around the Eternal City, while meeting the characters of the Roman social fabric of that period, such as Federico Fellini and pausing to contemplate the baroque architecture of the city.

The portraits of some of the most famous celebrities of the international jet set testify the “mundane” and glamour period of Andy Warhol during which the artist were commissioned portraits from all over the world and from many different, as long as wealthy, social categories. He was “the court painter of the seventies“, as Robert Rosenblum called him.

The evolution of the communication skills confirms the persuasive power of the image. An increasingly inevitable power, that is the primary element in all social and sociological contexts in which Warhol communicates, impresses and conveys his wishes and his techniques and quotes.
