Two-acts melodrama with book written by Felice Romani and music by Vincenzo Bellini. It takes place in Britain in 1300. The main character is the wife of the French King, Agnese of Merania. Repudiated for order of the pope, the princess runs away in a hut near the lake of Montolino where she remains unknown. The inhabitants, who don’t know her name, call her “the foreigner” (“la straniera“).
