Luminariamo Catania

Do you know that in Sicily the brilliance of baroque artisan luminaries are synonymous with light and altruism?

We chose the luminaries as a symbol of the new cover because they have a strong anchor with tradition, they are full of hidden meanings, but they are also the symbol of the most “stylish” Sicily. Chosen more and more by those who celebrate the sacred with the parties dedicated to the saints, but also by those who exalt the profane, installing them in fashion spaces, streets, facades.

Catania, this year has been illuminated by the magic of the lights everywhere: shops, restaurants, entire streets have chosen these bright works of art.

If traditionally have been the light of religious festivals and the symbol of sharing the faith, today they light up stylistically different contexts from the usual, leaving everyone speechless.

A popular symbol of altruistic sharing between religious and faithful people that has changed over time and that, from extraordinary and luminous architecture created by lords of light playing with symbols and doodles of traditional culture, has become a world pop icon. Reinterpreted by the likes of Domenico Pellegrino, strongly desired by stylists such as Dolce & Gabbana, revisited in an ironic or stylistic way by design companies such as Driade or Seletti who have chosen to use them as a synonym of contemporary foklore and sacredness, poised between kitsch and irony.

Enthralled by the bright designs of the illuminations, we created a festive cover that could brighten our city with good wishes for the year to come. “Luminariamo Catania” is because we hope that Catania can be more and more in turmoil, more and more rich of visitors, of beautiful stories to tell, of bright places to discover.

News, stories, customs and insights from the territory we have told in our new map between a route on Etna and a special by Catania by night and …
