After admiring the evocative piazza Duomo, leave behind you the Pescheria and walk along via Garibaldi until number 82. On the right you will meet via S. Anna and the Verga museum. Turn, then, in via Vittorio Emanuele and enjoy the Roman Theatre. Go in via Auteri and continue until piazza Federico II di Svevia: in front of you stands the magnificent Ursino Castle, seat of the Civic museum.

The Duomo Square of Taormina houses the Cathedral and a fountain. The latter, which stands at the center of the square, consists of two basins above which stands a statue depicting the emblem of the city: the centaur biped with a female bust.

The Pescheria

The “Pescheria” (Piscaria in Sicilian language) is the old fish market in Catania, which still retains and preserves the ancient folklore. Among the oldest monuments of the city, it extends the fish market. So many people crowd it all day.

The museum

Giovanni Verga Museum

It’s located on the second floor of the nineteenth-century palace in Via Sant’Anna, the apartment, where now is based the regional museum, before was the famous writer Giovanni Verga’s home. Inside, are preserved the intact furnishings and objects that belonged to the writer.

The theatre

Roman theatre and Odeon

Between via Teatro Greco and via Vittorio Emanuele there are the Roman Theatre and the Odeon. Some people assumed that their building dates back to II sec. AD, and that the theatre was carried out on a pre-existing Greek Age structure.

It is one of the few places in Catania where you can see Amenano river.

Castello Ursino

Ursino Castle

Between 1239 and 1250, Frederick II ordered to build the Ursino Castle for defensive purpose of the East coast of Sicily and it was on a promontory surrounded by sea. In 1669, the eruption gets the Castle away from the sea.

The museum often houses temporary exhibitions and events that melt with the permanent one. To be visited.
