    The Cathedral Square of Taormina houses the Cathedral and the Fountain, also called “Quattro Fontane” (Four fountains).

    The latter, at the center of the square, was built in 1635 in baroque style and consists of two basins above which stands a statue depicting the emblem of the city. The centaur biped with a female bust has a crown and he holds in his right hand a scepter and in his left hand a globe, both symbols of power.

    At the four corners of the fountain (hence the name “Quattro Fontane“) four columns are topped by four sea horses from whose mouth a time water was coming out and poured into the basin below.
