Street Art Silos

Culture, Galleries and art sites
Via Domenico Tempio - 95121 Catania

To be visited for admiring street art a few steps from baroque monuments.

As part of the iART Festival, in collaboration with the City of Catania and the support of the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, the city port has undergone a transformation and become an open air art installation.

Since 21 June 2015, eight international artists have transformed the landmark city silos to give the city a spectacular 21st century monument.

The works are not mere graphic representations but create a contemporary story that is inspired by Sicilian traditions. The common denominators of the works of art are in fact myths and legends seen from the artists’ perspectives.

It is possible to admire Colapesce who, aware of the increased weight of the island of Sicily returns to the surface to watch illegal immigrants disembark. Then there are Bellini’s beautiful and colourful muses, Ulysses’ escape from Polyphemus, the perpetual motion of Scylla and Charybdis and the Minotaur.

Introspection, the influence of urban style, a fascination with geometric shapes and vivid colours, a search for a unique language, improvisation and a curiosity with the invisible: every artist is characterised by perceptible elements in their works of art on show for the world to see.

These are the names of the artists involved who have left their artistic mark on Catania with their individual languages and styles: Okuda and Rosh333 (Spain), Microbo, Bo130, Danilo Bucchi and VladyArt (Italy) and the Ukrainian duo Intersni Kazki (Ukraine).

By the sea, Vhils, an artist from Portugal realised the biggest portrait of the world. A glance over the sea that covers the eight silos.
