Found in the basement of the Palace of the Senate, the Ionic Temple or Artemision, dated to the late sixth century BC., is where the deepest roots of ancient Syracuse are.

Located in parallel to the Athenaion (now Cathedral) it delimits an area of great historical and archaeological value.
The various excavations, carried out since 1960 up to today, have brought to light the architectural and archaeological materials of different ages, but especially the foundations of this great temple.
The interior of the pavilion is characterized by the gloom and the light filtering through a large “lantern” that becomes a room of light on the excavations.
The vertical cut into the wall on Piazza Minerva, operates a direct visual and spatial connection between the finds of the Ionic temple and the corner column of the temple of Athena.
