It was built between the sixth and ninth century AD, the Chapel is located in the homonymous Bonajuto’s palace in the typical district that it’s called Civita.

It’s dates in Byzantine era, the building has escaped to the terrible earthquake in 1693, and therefore inside it has a lot of medieval and fifteenth (very rare things in Catania) testimonials, such as frescoes and decorations.

The chapel originally was part of a religious building, it was dedicated to S.S. Saviour or popularly called “Salvatorello” and in the fifteenth century it was integrated into the construction of the Bonajuto family’s residence.

Comparing to its ancient original position, due to earthquakes and lava flows, the level of the building has fallen more than two meters. In the thirties the chapel was restored by Paolo Orsi and Sebastiano Agati and since it has visited and rented for exhibitions, meetings, musical and theatrical performances.
