After the terrible earthquake in 1693, the remains of the former San Placido’s Monastery and the oldest Platamone’s palace (in the fifteenth century it was donated by the Platamone’s family to the Benedictine nuns) were integrated each other to realize the Palazzo della Cultura.

After numerous renovations, the only evidence of late medieval building is represented by the lodge, where is a small balcony seems to be embedded in the backdrop of Monastery’s courtyard.

The rows of arches that line the building’s rectangular plan seem to enclosed the entire palace.

In the middle of the balcony is possible to see the Platamone family’s crest, which represents a mountain with over three shells and a lily on top.

Today, the Palazzo della Cultura is used as place where organize important cultural events, exhibitions and concerts.
