With the mural ‘O-Maggio’ on the facade of the Teatro Stabile, the female artistic collective Le MaleTinte pays a moving tribute to the unforgettable actress Mariella Lo Giudice, a prominent figure in the theatrical panorama of Catania, on the tenth anniversary of her passing. Through the use of petunias and female silhouettes evoking the vitality of spring and nature, Le MaleTinte have captured the sensitivity and vivacity of the actress with great sophistication, placing particular emphasis on her favorite month, May.

Urban expressions and women protagonists

Walking through Piazza dei Libri, near Castello Ursino, you might certainly feel observed by a captivating woman with red hair: it’s the mural on via Buscemi! In this urban artwork, born in a neighborhood transformed thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the Gammazita Association, internationally renowned street artists Loste and Rosk have transformed activist Florinda Panzarella, one of the most active figures in the association, into an undisputed icon.

With the writer Antonio Anc and his urban valorization project ‘Atena’, the streets of Catania come alive with the power of the goddesses of Greek mythology. In Anc’s murals, mythological female figures, their wisdom, and references to culture are recurring, almost as a source of inspiration for all women who seek to enrich themselves culturally by pursuing their dreams with determination.

But perhaps it’s the representation of the little girl imitating the goddess Metis that captures the hearts of passersby. The mural transforms ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’, a book that pays homage to women who have become symbols of courage, into a vivid urban reality.
