Pacini Garden

City parks, Environment and nature
Via Cardinale Dusmet Catania

Opposite Uzeda gate, in the heart of the historic center of Catania, under the famous arches of the Navy (derived from the filling of the beach of the ancient “Porticello“) there is the Pacini garden, it is known to locals as “villa d’i varagghi” that it means garden of yawns, because it is frequented by the elderly and unemployed.

It is one of the two oldest gardens in the city, it was built at the end of 1800 and  was incorporated by the railway viaduct in the thirties and this made it less “airy” but at the same time has given it a well-known feature.

After the war was built Piazza Alcalà (now Piazza Borsellino), cutting down the trees and occupying a part of the garden, in the sixties another area was covered by the second row of arches to allow the doubling of the railway line. Inside the villa has a very beautiful fountain and is accessible a children’s play area with slides and swings.

Pacini garden is a quiet place where you can spend moments of relaxation and play.
