There’s no specific day to fall in love with Catania movida: every evening, all week long, you’ll find people ready to party around the city. For dinner – know this – the venues start filling up from around 9:30 pm (a bit like in Spain, for example!) onwards, and after dinner, who goes to sleep? There’s always a good reason to toast something with friends. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a cocktail bar or at one of the characteristic kiosks: the important thing is to be together.
But what are the classic places of Catania’s nightlife? Among the beloved spots by the citizens, there is certainly the magical Via degli Ombrellini (Umbrella Street), in Via Gisira. Located near the Fish Market, it’s a street cherished by both locals and tourists for its beauty and liveliness, given by the ‘roof’ of colorful umbrellas and all the venues where you can drink among friends, stroll, and gather.
In the area of the Catania Fair, instead, a small street bursts with soul and fun: Via Gemmellaro. This street hosts numerous pubs and restaurants, each different from the other, but all fascinating and worth trying. Enter the street, let yourself be inspired by the venue that intrigues you the most, and fun is guaranteed!
If you have a more romantic soul, we recommend driving to the port area. Here, besides the classic bars, notable are the silos like the gigantic mural. But that’s not all: stop to breathe the fresh night air, lean on one of the docks, letting yourself be lulled by the rocking of the boats, the sight of the bright stars, and the quiet atmosphere of the Marina Arches area. In this area, you can also head to the Vecchia Dogana or Levante, to enjoy the typical nightclub fun.
Speaking of music, we’re not done yet! Especially in summer, even the Playa di Catania coastline comes alive. The beach resorts turn into open-air discos, creating nights of fun with feet in the sand and the sea breeze accompanying the dances.
And to conclude a night of nightlife in beauty? There are many bars open 24/7! Give in to the temptation of a good warm croissant with Nutella, white cream, or pistachio. Or indulge in one of the thousand sweets of Sicilian tradition. And if you’re a true Highlander, make a last stop at the small village of San Giovanni Li Cuti: admiring a sunrise from the railings of the seaside village is an experience that will surely stay in your heart!
