Family-friendly restaurants in Catania

By Bianca Caccamese of Kids Trip

Thanks to the collaboration with Kids Trip, we’ll map the “family-friendly” restaurants in Catania and give them a quality label to affixed on the window. And on our site you could discover many useful information and curiosities. Together with Bianca Caccamese, we introduce the first restaurant in order with all our strict (!) standards: Caffè Curtigghiu in Catania, kid-friendly restaurant!

“We never go to restaurant” is a sentence that parents often say. The reason for this? To go out with children is hard, specially when they are too young. It is difficult to avoid they do not walk around disturbing other people. Not mentioning the equilibrists figures you make when trying to change a diaper in the bathroom. Or the gloomy menù for children consisting only of pasta with tomato sauce, cutlet and fried potatoes.

70% of families with children choose the restaurant based on how much their children like it. According to a survey by Kids Trip, 65% of respondents would like a “corner with game and books” for their children in the restaurant they choose.

In Catania, in via Santa Filomena, we found a restaurant – Caffe Curtigghiu – where there is already some kind of entertainment for children and adults: the placemat with games (for adults) and drawings to color (for children). Its owner, Emanuela Panke, is a friendly person who cares about all her guests, the younger too. For two of them, Maria Roberta and Giacomo, affectionate customers which go to the restaurant with their mom and dad, she has even personalized the chairs with their names!

In her restaurant you will find the high chair, stool/step to reach the sink in the bathroom (the changing table is coming), the kid-friendly menu. There are also nice waiters ready to challenge the little guests with funny riddles. On Sunday there is the happy hour: from 20.00 to 21.30 families with children get complimentary pizza and drink.

In autumn it will come back creative Sundays: the successful cooking lab. Caffè Curtigghiu has all it needs to be approved by Kids Trip and CityMap!

Recently, in Italy too, people use to tag some restaurants, hotels and beach facilities as “no kids”. But for us it is importante to point out the “kids and family friendly” restaurants and facilities. This is why at Caffè Curtigghiu, in via Santa Filomena, 43, you will see the “quality label”.

From now on, it will be easier to recognise family-friendly restaurants in Catania: look for the label and you will find the welcoming families desire!
