Via Timeo - 98039 Taormina

During Christmas time, it is the charming set of the living nativity scene.

The Odeon is a small theater built in the second century AD on an oldest Greek temple, now hidden by the Church of St. Catherine of the seventeenth century.

The theater, built in Roman times, hosted the musical and literary events intended for the elite of the city. The Odeon was brought to light only in 1892, after the archaeological excavations which required the removal of several structures built during the centuries over the small theater.

The auditorium is divided into five sectors and is surmounted by a semicircular gallery in bricks.

Currently the Odeon is used for the events of the city and during the Christmas season it is used as scenography for the living crib.
