Piazza Carmine - 98039 Taormina

This church can be reached via a short staircase near Porta Catania, in Corso Umberto.

Dating back to 1662, the Church of the Carmine was built in the Baroque style. Attached to this was built, also, the convent of the Carmelite friars.

Sacked several times by the Saracens, the church was completely destroyed by the bombing that hit Taormina in 1943. After its reconstruction and restoration, it is used as an auditorium and exhibition hall.
