Entrepreneur, Painter
From her island, she inherited intense and vibrant colors, and from the volcano, she extracted powerful energy. In her art, ‘fingers on canvas,’ where hands replace brushes, and colors blend for each unique work. She chooses the quiet hours of the night for artistic production, a time when everything pauses, the world sleeps, and it’s possible to hear the heartbeat of the earth—a time to try to find the meaning of life.
Marisa Leo
Marisa Leo, a 39-year-old woman from Salemi (TP), was tragically killed in Marsala by her ex-partner Angelo Reina. Her life was prematurely cut short, leaving behind a young daughter from her relationship with Angelo Reina.
The painting spontaneously emerges on a parchment sheet with a pen, transforming into a work of art overnight. The artist sought to imprint on the canvas the vitality of the woman, her passion, and the tragic outcome that we remember today. The artwork tells the story of the metamorphosis of the body, subjected to violence, into nature. Her hair becomes vineyards, her eyes shine with the purple of wine, and her body transforms into a heart, bringing us closer to the loneliness of the little daughter orphaned by both parents.
Gender-based violence is a deep-rooted evil that continues to endanger the lives of women worldwide. Discussing these issues is essential to raise public awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for concrete changes in society.
Femicide is not just an individual problem but a social issue that requires the commitment of everyone. Only through open discussion and education can we hope to create a culture that rejects gender-based violence in all its forms. It is our collective duty to work together to ensure a future where no woman has to live in fear of becoming a victim and where mutual respect forms the basis of every relationship.
