Lyric Festival of the Stone Theaters 2024: “It’s Already Wonder”
Puccini celebrations and great names of opera in Sicily
The 2024 Lyric Festival of the Stone Theaters, directed by Francesco Costa and promoted by the Sicilian Lyric Choir, promises to be an extraordinary edition. The theme of “wonder” will be the guiding thread of this summer event, taking place among the suggestive ancient theaters of Sicily.
On August 9, the Ancient Theater of Taormina will host Giacomo Puccini’s monumental unfinished opera, Turandot. The production will feature soprano Elena Mosuc as Liù and will be repeated on August 11 at the Greek Theater of Tindari.
Inclusivity and Innovation: Translation into Sign Language
This year, the collaboration with the “Sicily, Tourism for All” Association of Syracuse, led by Bernadette Lo Bianco, continues. The project for simultaneous translation of opera into Sign Language represents a cultural and social revolution, in partnership with Rai Accessibility and Rai Public Utility.
Tribute to Ennio Morricone
A tribute to the great composer Ennio Morricone will take place on August 2 at the Greek Theater of Tindari and on August 10 at the Ancient Theater of Taormina. Pop lyric tenor Alberto Urso will star in a concert dedicated to the “prince of 20th-century Italian music”, with a repeat performance on August 21 on the staircase of Noto.
Tribute to Domenico Modugno
On the 30th anniversary of Domenico Modugno’s death, his legend will be celebrated with an innovative symphonic opera on August 13 at the Greek Theater of Tindari. The event will feature symbolic faces of Sicilian identity, such as Mario Incudine.
Batti(A)to Spiritual
The new format dedicated to the spirituality of Franco Battiato, Batti(A)to Spiritual, will combine vocal ensemble, strings, and Celtic harp. This performance will also be a tribute to the philosopher Manlio Sgalambro.
Over forty performances will take place in suggestive locations such as the Andromeda Theater of Santo Stefano Quisquina, the Roman Villa of Terme Vigliatore, the Theater of Giardini Naxos, and many others. The festival represents a significant cultural decentralization effort.
