Conference: Etna Traces the Territory of Aci

On 25 October 2024
A unique opportunity to discover the history of Etna and the identity of the Aci Territory
On October 25, at 5:00 PM, the conference “Etna Traces the Territory of Aci” will take place at the Galatea Hall of the Municipal Palace of Acireale. This event, organized by the Basaltika Association with the scientific consulting of the I.N.G.V. Etneo Observatory in Catania, aims to narrate the history of Mount Etna and its eruptions, events that have significantly impacted the development and identity of the Aci territory.
Historical Testimonies on Etna
The director of the observatory, Stefano Branca, will open the meeting with a historical testimony regarding the eruption of June 28, 1329, considered the oldest historical source from a contemporary who directly observed an eruptive event of Etna. Following this, there will be in-depth discussions and interventions by journalist and writer Giuseppe Riggio and historian Saro Bella, who will provide a unique perspective on the relationship between the volcano and the territory.
A Concert Not to Be Missed
The conference will conclude with a captivating concert by the students of the Vincenzo Bellini Musical Conservatory, who will perform musical pieces inspired by the rhythms and echoes of the volcano. This event is not only an opportunity to learn more about the history of Etna but also to appreciate how art and culture can unite people across time.
