Highlighted among the paramount events during Sicily’s Carnival 2024, from February 3rd to 13th, 2024, is the “Carnival of Misterbianco… the most beautiful costumes in Sicily” This event, known for its characteristic charm, features mesmerizing masks, exquisite costumes, and elaborate floats accompanied by musical performances and delightful tastings. Acknowledged by the REIS (Register of Intangible Heritage of Sicily), it represents an invaluable national treasure.
Misterbianco’s Carnival, among the island’s oldest and most renowned, showcases high-fashion costumes meticulously crafted by local associations and artisans in the months preceding the festivities. Indeed, weighing up to 40 kg each, the costumes are a testament to the careful selection of fabrics and themes. The prestigious award ceremony on Via Gramsci will determine the winners for the best costume and the most original scenery.
In its 50th year, the Carnival continues its tradition of blending culture, theater, entertainment, folklore, and craftsmanship. The program features a lively parade of masked groups and floats along Via Gramsci and the historic center’s streets. The festivities commence with the grand opening of the “Carnival in Frame” exhibition, followed by Edoardo Pugliesi’s personal exhibition the next day.
Following these events, enjoy the parade of floats and the masked citywide celebration, repeating on the subsequent Sunday and Shrove Tuesday with a different arrangement of floats and groups.
