Brad Mehldau Trio

Catania Jazz starts its 33rd concert season with a big international jazz star.

Great musicians acclaimed and requested in the biggest international festival, the characteristics of Meldau are improvisation and formalities: infact, first of all he is an improviser but, at the same time, he is also very close to the formal architecture of music. He played all over the world and his performances let him gain a great number of fans.

In 1999 and in 2000 he records two of his most significant album: “Elegiac Cycle”, solo album, and “Places”, as a trio, considered one of his best work. In 2004, he records his first album with the record label Nonesuch “Brad Mehldau live in Tokyo”, confirming his maturity as solo artist. In 2005 the drummer Jeff Ballard joins to the band. With his new trio, with Grenadier as bassist, Brad Mehldau creates an exciting double live album , titled “Brad Mehldau trio live”, in 2008.

Brad Mehldau has also worked with jazz musicians such as Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Lee Konitz, and played in albums of musicians like Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Charles Lloyd. For over a decade he worked for several musicians including Peter Bernstein, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Mark Tuner.

His music was also the soundtrack of films such as Eyes Wide Shut and The Million Dollar Hotel.
