Donated in 1806 to the City of Taormina from the King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Ferdinand I of Bourbon, the beauty and charm of Isola Bella have led it, over the centuries, to be considered one of the symbols of Taormina.

From 1890 to 1990, when it was acquired by the Department of Cultural Heritage, the island had several owners. Doubtless the one who brought major changes to the morphology of the island was Lady Florence Treveylan, an English aristocrat exiled to Sicily by Queen Victoria.
Lady Florence enriched the flora of the island with tropical plants, which are still mixed to the Mediterranean greenery. The noblewoman also built a small house surrounded by greenery where she used to spend the hottest hours of the day.

In 1954 the new owners, the family Bosurgi, built a villa that fits harmoniously among the limestone rocks and the vegetation of Isola Bella.

Besides the splendid species of local flora and tropical plants, Isola Bella is characterized by the presence of a rare lizard (called Red-breasted) and several species of seabirds.

Along with “Villa Caronia”, it is part of the Regional Natural Museum.

The visits will be staggered in groups of 15 people. For school groups 20 people accompanied by teachers will be admitted.
