The Church of SS. Peter and Paul was probably built in the Byzantine era on the ruins of a Greek temple. The church, built near the Arabian necropolis, is reputed being the oldest Christian church in Taormina.

The façade dates to the thirteenth century; it has a portal with simple decorations in Taormina stone and is surmounted by decorations of the Baroque period.

The church is divided into three naves separated by arches that give it a sense of immensity, despite its small dimensions. Embellished with ornaments and decorations of black volcanic pumice, the interior of the Church of SS. Peter and Paul hosts the statue of St. Peter and a fresco depicting the 12 Apostles.

On June 29th, the day of Sts. Peter and Paul’ feast, the statue is carried in procession to the church of San Pancrazio, where is placed up to the day of the celebration of the Saint Patron of Taormina (July 9th).
