Catania Living Lab

Catania Living Lab, developed within the project “Smart Cities and Communities”, is in the center of Catania, a few steps from the roman amphitheatre in Piazza Stesicoro.

A living lab is a laboratory that puts the cosumer at the center of its activities by involving the consumer himself in creating innovative ideas. This new kind of laboratory is an instrument for the obtainment of information from the user and, at the same time, it is a “new model of sharing experiences”.

In this context, Catania Living Lab aims to “promote smart and sustainable development of the territory by exploiting archaeological, historical, artistic and cultural heritage” and to increase the touristic experience. Using new technologies that makes cultural heritage of Catania more accessible, citizen and tourist are emotionally engaged thanks to an interactive and immersive experience.

Using modern technologies, Catania Living Lab shows to its visitors the characteristic and particularity of Catania urban landscape that nowadays are no more visible. Graphic reconstructions and ancient and modern maps show the different stratus of the city over the centuries.

The process is evolving, so the lab continues to add contents for making unforgettable the visit of Catania.
