The Botanical and Geological Park of Alcantara Gorges is located in the protected area of the valley of the river Alcantara. The characteristics gorges arise from cooling of past lava flows caused by the cold water of the river, although, according to the legend, the water of the river were made icy by God Vulcan.

The legend tells that Vulcan, in love and loved by Venus, had warmed the waters where the goddess used to bathe. When their love ended, the Fire God punished Venus making cold the river waters.

In addition to donating magnificent scenery and beautiful landscapes, the Park offers the possibility of hiking and sports. It also carries out many educational activities, mainly addressed to schools, thanks to the presence of museums such as the Museum of Land, to let you learn in an innovative and amusing way.

The park, which is 20 km from Taormina and 53 km from Catania, can be easily reached by car or bus.
