Historical artifacts and a virtual experience from the early century in Messina with the exhibition “1908 CityMuseumCity”

Discover the heart of Messina and relive its extraordinary past through the exhibition ‘1908 CityMuseumCity,’ open until December 31, 2023. This poignant and captivating exhibit pays tribute to the resilience of a city that faced the devastating earthquake of 1908, an event that deeply marked its face and history.

Immersed in a 1000-square-meter space, formerly the site of the National Museum, you’ll have a unique opportunity to embark on a journey through time. Walk among architectural remnants recovered from the rubble, explore historical documents, and view vintage footage that narrates the story of Messina.

But technology transforms this experience into something extraordinary: thanks to sophisticated glasses, you can immerse yourself in ancient Messina, exactly as it was before the tragic seismic event. In the immersive room, you can even relive, through a simulation, the tragic night of December 28, 1908.

The National Museum of Messina has continued its commitment to collect, preserve, and enhance the artistic testimonies of the city after that devastating earthquake.
